Lesson 1.1: What Are Core Values & Why Do They Matter?

Every day, you make countless decisions—what to prioritize, how to spend your time, and who to surround yourself with. But have you ever stopped to ask what truly drives these choices? The answer lies in your core values—the deeply held principles that shape your decisions, behaviors, and sense of fulfillment.

🏆 A Quick Story: The Same Job, Two Different Values

Alex and Jordan, two close friends, are both offered high-paying jobs at the same company. On paper, it’s a dream opportunity—great salary, stability, and career growth. But as they think about the offer, they realize they value different things.

Alex grew up in a financially unstable household, where money was always a source of stress. For him, financial security is a top priority, and this job provides exactly that. He takes the offer, feeling a deep sense of relief and accomplishment, knowing he can support his family and build a stable future.

Jordan, on the other hand, values creativity and autonomy. While the job offers financial benefits, it’s structured and rigid, leaving little room for innovation. Jordan still takes the job but soon starts feeling restless, craving more creative freedom. Over time, Jordan realizes that financial success alone isn’t enough—there’s a need to integrate more creativity into daily work or explore side projects.

Same job, different experiences. Why? Because what fulfills us isn’t about the job itself—it’s about whether it aligns with our personal values. Alex thrives because the job supports a value deeply important to him. Jordan struggles because an equally important value is missing.

Neither choice is wrong—what matters is understanding your own values so you can make intentional decisions that align with what truly matters to you.

💡 Why Core Values Matter

Your values influence every aspect of your life, including:

Decisions: They act as a compass, guiding choices about career, relationships, and daily habits.
Happiness & Fulfillment: The more aligned you are with your values, the more content and purpose-driven you feel.
Confidence & Authenticity: When your actions match your values, you experience less self-doubt and more self-trust.
Boundaries & Priorities: Knowing your values helps you say yes to what matters and no to distractions.

But here’s the challenge—many people have never consciously identified their values. Instead, they follow:

🚩 Societal Expectations: Choosing careers or lifestyles based on what’s seen as “successful.”
🚩 Family Conditioning: Inheriting beliefs from parents without questioning if they align.
🚩 Peer Influence: Adopting values based on external validation rather than internal truth.

This lesson is your first step toward breaking that cycle and discovering what truly resonates with YOU.
